Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.(Hebrews 12:1 TLB)
If you wanted to complete a marathon do you think you could show up on the day of the race and run it successfully without proper training or conditioning? Do you think your body could withstand the long distance without any prior short distance runs leading up to the race? Do you think you could run comfortabley without drinking enough water? Or stuff yourself the night before with junk food and have the same energy you need to complete the race? Do you honestly think that your body could sustain 26.2 miles of running if you merely read literature or watched videos on marathons? While it is not impossible to complete a marathon without preparation or training, it is impractical and dangerous. Severe dehydration, loss of mental fortitude and extreme injuries are probable. And ultimately every part of your body would be screaming for you to quit.
Likewise, we cannot complete our race to change any bad habits without proper training. Prayer is so imperative and meditating on God’s word is absolutely crucial. Therefore, find scriptures on self-control, temptation, and perseverence. Gain knowledge in the area in which you are training. Commit to prepare your mind, body and spirit so that you can run your race successfully. Changing habits are not sprints or marathons, but a lifetime journey with multiple rewards.
Prayer: Holy Father, you are the same yesterday, today and forever. You are a very present and never ending help. Please help me to do everything I can to stay physically, spiritually, and mentally fit for my life’s journey. Thank you in advance for the victory. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
